BMW has introduced updated versions of its X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition models, boasting improved performance, refreshed looks and enhanced digital capabilities. The new models come with mild hybrid assistance, as an electric motor integrated into the eight-speed M Steptronic transmission provides up to 12 horsepower and 200 Nm of torque. This motor also doubles as a starter-generator mounted on the crankshaft, contributing to the vehicles’ improved fuel efficiency.
The new M Competition versions retain the 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 engine of their predecessors but with some improvements. The 48-volt mild hybrid assistance delivers a more dynamic driving experience, particularly in the midrange. The vehicles also feature redesigned headlights and a grille that is now finished in black. The new models come in three new exterior colors, Brooklyn Grey metallic, Isle of Man Green metallic and Frozen Pure Grey metallic.
Both models come with 21-inch M light alloy wheels at the front and 22-inch M wheels at the rear, while M forged wheels are available as an option. The BMW Curved Display dominates the interior, featuring a 12.3-inch infotainment display and a 14.9-inch instrument cluster in a single curved frame. The cabin is fitted with carbon fiber trim as standard, and customers can also choose from other finishing options, including Fineline Black or Silver Ash Root Open Pore wood.
The revamped BMW X5 M Competition and X6 M Competition models will be manufactured at the company’s plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, starting from April 2023.
