Τρανς και drag queens από τον χρωστήρα του Άντι Γουόρχολ

Είκοσι 5 πορτρέτα τρανς και drag queens από μία από τις λιγότερο γνωστές σειρές έργων του Άντι Γουόρχολ θα εκτεθούν στην Tate Modern του Λονδίνου στο πλαίσιο της έκθεσης «Andy Warhol» που εγκαινιάζεται στις 12 Μαρτίου και ολοκληρώνεται στις 6 Σεπτεμβρίου.

This portrait was taken four years earlier by photographer Robert Mapplethorpe, capturing an intense gaze and stark expression from Warhol.

But Mapplethorpe sensed a softening of the artist’s rigid exterior at this time: 'I think he was finally becoming much more human somehow and he was voicing what he really thought as opposed to what people would react to… He died at a moment when I think he was finally sort of feeling comfortable somehow.' Next month a Warhol retrospective opens at Tate Modern, the first at the gallery for almost 20 years.

From the artist's iconic screenprints and signature self-portraits to delicate line drawings and lesser-known paintings of drag queens and trans women, the exhibition reflects on an unforgettable career and a remarkable life.

A post shared by Tate (@tate) on Feb 22, 2020 at 4:15am PST Το 1974, ο Ιταλός έμπορος έργων τέχνης Λουτσιάνο Ανσελμίνο παρήγγειλε στον Άντι να εγκαταλείψει τις σούπες σε κονσέρβα και τους σούπερσταρ, θέματα με τα οποία έκανε όνομα, και να δημιουργήσει πορτρέτα της κρυμμένης κοινότητας των drag queens της Νέας Υόρκης.

Η παραγγελία συνοδεύθηκε από το ποσό του 1 εκατομμυρίου δολαρίων.

Ο Γουόρχολ ήταν ήδη πολύ διάσημος για να αναζητήσει ο ίδιος τα θέματά του, οπότε έστειλε τους νεαρούς παρατρεχάμενούς του στο κλαμπ Gilded Grape, στέκι ως επί το πλείστον Μαύρων και Λατίνο.

Έτσι ξεκίνησε ένα από τα πιο συγκινητικά και λιγότερο γνωστά πρότζεκτ του Γουόρχολ, το «Ladies and Gentlemen»: 264 έργα πάνω σε μετάξι, 25 από τα οποία θα εκτεθούν δίπλα στο πορτρέτο του Μάο ...
