Μία online δημοπρασία για την εποχή της καραντίνας από τον Sotheby's

Ύστερα από την κατάρριψη ρεκόρ εσόδων σε διαδικτυακή δημοπρασία τον περασμένο μήνα, ο οίκος Sotheby’s ανακοίνωσε μια νέα online πώληση έργων τέχνης εμπνευσμένων από τον αποκλεισμό που προκάλεσε η πανδημία του κοροναϊού.

Με τίτλο «I Have to Stay at Home» η δημοπρασία διοργανώθηκε μέσα σε μόλις τρεις εβδομάδες, με τους επιμελητές του οίκου Sotheby’s να εντοπίζουν όλα τα έργα τέχνης στο Λονδίνο και να τα θέτουν προς πώληση στο παγκόσμιο κοινό.

Kippenberger created his work whilst in convalescence in Europe.

It is a nostalgic tribute to forgotten days in the summer sun; an ode to the heady weeks he had spent in Rio de Janeiro with Albert Oehlen.

In the same way, we have built this sale in isolation, trapped in our home offices; dreaming of unrestricted travel, crowded gallery openings, and busy auction rooms.

– ➡️ One of my favourite works in the sale is by the doyenne of British Art, Bridget Riley.

‘Measure for Measure’ is part of her recent series ‘Disc Paintings’, an advancement of her work in the early 70s and inspired by the pointillist Georges Seurat for whom she has been long associated with.

That at 89 years young, Riley is still exploring her optical investigations is extraordinary.

Like all her best works, Measure for Measure synthesises colour, composition and form, whilst confronting themes of perception.

This painting projects a refined sensation of movement that really demands an intimate and personal engagement.

The interaction of each subtle colour vibrates, projecting a sensation of constant movement – a subtle melody; etching each glimpse, each small pulse into our visual memory.

This interaction of form and colour is so critical in Riley’s work.
